ICC SUMMER JAM COMPETITION 21ST – 22ND JULY 2012

 F16 FALCONS

On July 20th me and my mum travelled to Blackpool for the ICC Summer Jam Competition. We arrived and joined up with friends from other teams that we haven’t seen for such a long time it was lovely to see them on the Saturday. We went to the competition to watch and support our friends it was a really good day and a good atmosphere. Then on Sunday it was our turn to take to the floor, we joined Tim and the other members from the F16 Falcons, whilst waiting to perform we all went outside for run through of the routine. We went to competition with only half of our team and when performing we performed a clean exciting routine.

I really enjoyed my weekend in Blackpool at the ICC Summer Jam Competition and it was a great way to end the season.

The F16 Falcons made me proud at ICC Summer Jam.

Athlete Spotlight – Andy Brown

Below, Andy Brown from Leeds Celtic Aviators and Aviator F-16 Falcons has shared with us his phenomenally exciting and successful year and said “I’m just struggling where to start because I’ve managed to accomplish so much that I hadn’t expected to this year.”

In his own words:

I was lucky enough to be the first person in Leed’s Colour Chemistry department to be awarded a scholarship from the Dyers Company who are one of the larger of the City of London’s Royal Livery Companies allowing me to follow my Masters in Surface and Polymer Science and Technology, through them I was also fortunate enough to be invited to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lunch at Westminster which was something incredible I could never of even dreamed of being invited too otherwise and quite honestly having lunch on the table next to the Queen was really quite amazing , I still struggle to believe I’ve done.

Earlier in the year I was chosen from all of the postgraduates at the University of Leeds to be interviewed by a journalist from the Independent about my course. It was another quite surreal experience, only made stranger by actually seeing my words in print when the paper actually came out. This article can be viewed here.

Two weeks ago, I also received confirmation that I have been accepted onto a PhD course in the Col

our Chemistry department at Leeds where I will be hoping to work on the design of a gas sensor for the rapid diagnosis of disease’s such as TB which has the potential in the long run to save many many lives in the 3rd world, along with being offered 2 scholarships to fund it one from the Dyer’s Company and a second one from the university.

Last but not least on my list of achievements is cheer, I’ve gone from doing no cheer or anything really all that similar to competing on a team who won 2 university competitions and came second in a national open competition with Celtics, and even competing and winning in Germany with Falcons. Quite an achievement when I didn’t even really think i’d get onto Celtic’s when I tried out!

Well congratulations Andy, and Good Luck! We hope this year is as successful for you!
