Leeds group aims to build on Olympic joy

We’d like to share the article that was published in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Friday 24 August 2012 about our FREE SESSIONS:

Team GB’s Olympic gymnasts tumbled their way to a flipping great medal haul at London 2012.

And now a team of superfit stars from Leeds is hoping to build on that success, and find the next generation of gymnastic heroes right here in the city.

Champion cheerleading outfit Aviator Allstars – who recently scooped two medals at the European Cheerleading Championships – are throwing open the doors to their Bramley gym for free.

Cheerleading is currently not an Olympic sport, but is expected to become one by the 2016 games in Rio.

Rachel Pearson, 26, founded Aviator Allstars with business partner Tim Peffers in 2008, following the pair’s success managing the cheerleading teams at the University of Leeds, Leeds Met and Leeds Trinity University College.

Rachel said: “The Olympics was amazing and inspiring, but the true value of the Olympics will be its legacy. It’s our responsibility to go out there and keep the Olympic spirit going by getting active, working hard, and making ourselves and our country a better place.”

Tim Peffers, co-director of Aviator Allstars, added: “The thrill of competition, the satisfaction of seeing your hard work and dedication pay off, and the thrill of working as a team towards a common goal, is no different whether you’re winning a Sunday league football game or a gold medal. We wanted to bring those opportunities to as many people as possible.”

Aviator Allstars’ Gym, at Lower Westfield House, in Broad Lane, Bramley, will be free to new members from August 29 to September 12.

The gym will also be creating two new beginners’ cheerleading teams for young people aged from four through to 21, teaching dance and gymnastics.

Aviator Allstars have represented the UK at the last two World Championships in Florida and will be the British Cheerleading Association’s representative at the 2013 event. Visit www.aviatorallstars.com or Click Here to Book Your Free Place

ICC SUMMER JAM COMPETITION 21ST – 22ND JULY 2012

 F16 FALCONS

On July 20th me and my mum travelled to Blackpool for the ICC Summer Jam Competition. We arrived and joined up with friends from other teams that we haven’t seen for such a long time it was lovely to see them on the Saturday. We went to the competition to watch and support our friends it was a really good day and a good atmosphere. Then on Sunday it was our turn to take to the floor, we joined Tim and the other members from the F16 Falcons, whilst waiting to perform we all went outside for run through of the routine. We went to competition with only half of our team and when performing we performed a clean exciting routine.

I really enjoyed my weekend in Blackpool at the ICC Summer Jam Competition and it was a great way to end the season.

The F16 Falcons made me proud at ICC Summer Jam.

Menwith Hill Summer Camp

Summer Camp

A group of our coaches have dedicated the last 4 days to working with a great bunch of children from Menwith Hill. We ran a cheerleading summer camp providing skills coaching and working on team bonding activities. Many of the participating children had never tried cheerleading before, but they were so enthusiastic and attentive, they achieved so much more than they thought they could. All their hard work culminated in a performance of the routines they learnt in front of the youth workers and their parents.

We had a great time and can’t wait until next year!
